Jareth from Labyrinth Crossplay

Ferasha looks incredible crossplaying as the Goblin King himself, Jareth from Labyrinth! Here's what she had to say...

"Labyrinth is one of the things that marked my childhood. I've been in love with the Goblin King since the age of 8 - much before I watched the movie with adult's eyes and realized there's something fishy in the blatant innuendo between the ever so sexy Jareth and the painfully underage Sarah. I admit, however, that I never wanted to be the Goblin King. What I dreamed about was to become Sarah. Who didn’t want to be the kickass heroine who both gets to beat the Labyrinth and dance with the Gobling King in his palace? I certainly know I did. Alas, years went by and I aged, and Sarah turned into one of those cosplay projects I’d never do. You cannot convincingly portray a coming-of-age heroine when you’re 35 – even if it looked good on the outside, on the inside it just wouldn’t feel right. But certain things happened that made me realize – much to my own surprise – that I could pass for a pretty decent Goblin King.

The costume was both easy and difficult to make. I worked on it with Shunak, my BFF and accomplice in all cosplay projects. On one hand, the crafting was not as complicated as it seemed at first, as a lot of hacks and shortcuts could be employed – ripping up cheap curtains to make the rotten velvet effect, using EVA foam for the breastplate and hot glue for decoration, and boiling actual chicken bones to cast them out of resin with the use of silicone molds. On the other, way too many little things went wrong with the costume, up to the point I almost gave up in one moment. It culminated with the wig that got lost in the mail twice and travelled for almost four months, before finally arriving on the very day when David Bowie returned to his home planet – which both gave me the strength to continue as I took it as a sign of His approval, and made me scared sh*tless as it added an extra layer of pressure.

But in the end, here it is – my take on the Goblin King, or “if you cannot be with the man of your dreams, you can become him.” In that one picture, Sarah is portrayed by Csilla – a girl I met in Hungary at a convention, who was pretty much my main inspiration to make this project. If curious to learn more about my view on “Labyrinth” over the years and what the role that Csilla played was, just follow the link here."
