#SuperPopLocks Hair Art Contest Winner Features Pixelated Hair

Sarasota stylist, Jen Wohlforth (@RedFeatherFX) won 1st place in a national hair art contest on Instagram. The goal was to create interpretive art inspired by superheroes and villains. Using products from Pravana and Olaplex, Jen created two characters based on Thanos and Nebula. Her entry featured a stunning example of Pixelated Hair, a new trend in hair art perfected by @PhilDoesHair. The contest ran from February to March and the winner was announced in April of 2016. The contest received hundreds of entries and the hashtag #SuperPopLocks was used over 1,500 times on Instagram.

@LollypopLocks has hosted several interpretive hair art contests on Instagram that have earned international attention in the beauty and fashion industries and attracted thousands of entries from talented stylists all over the world. The contest winners are determined by a panel of nine judges with a viewership of over a million followers on Instagram, including @HairGod_Zito, @ImAllAboutDaHair, @BottleBlonde76, etc.

The latest contest, #SuperPopLocks, called for entries influenced by superheroes and villains. The winner of the contest was inspired by the Infinity Gauntlet and transformed two models into Thanos and Nebula, made popular by the recent Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy. The winning submission, a slideshow of photos, was the work of @RedFeatherFX, aka Jen Wohlforth. @LollypopLocks had this to say to @RedFeatherFX: “Your commitment to the story line and use of color and color placement was so well done. You are a true artist.”

Red Feather FX is a salon based in Sarasota, Florida featuring Pravana Hair Color. Salon owner, Jen Wohlforth, specializes in vivid hair color, balayage and other advanced hair coloring techniques like the Pixelated Haircolor demonstrated in her #SuperPopLocks entry. Jen says the majority of her clients don’t request hair pixels but she states, “It’s important to keep pushing yourself creatively. These contests give stylists at every level an opportunity to challenge themselves.”

Jen is also an American Board Certified Haircolorist, a prestigious title held by only 2,500 stylists across the country. This advanced certification focuses on the color theory and chemistry behind the art and science of coloring hair. “I believe that the first priority in any service should be the integrity of the hair,” says Jen. “The more I know as a stylist, the further I can push my craft while keeping hair healthy.” Red Feather FX carries specialty products like Olaplex that are designed to protect hair during chemical services. This knowledge and respect for hair has gained Red Feather FX a reputation for not only vivid hair color, but also for difficult color corrections. Among the many positive reviews of her work, one client calls Jen “a life-saver/dream-maker/hair-coloring magician.”

What’s next for this talented artist? Jen intends to become an educator. “This is such an amazing time to be in the hair industry. There is so much to learn and so much to create. I want to collaborate more with other stylists to challenge myself and I’m currently pursuing the path of an educator to share my passion for color with stylists across the country.” This rising stylist is certainly a talent to watch!
