Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Now that we have all been enlightened with the backstory of Steve Rogers from Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier lets you kick up your heels and watch two hours worth of ass kicking! Ok, maybe there a bit more to this movie, but not much. With extreme action, a sprinkling of Roger’s search for purpose and self-identity, and a dash of not so super superheroes, you have the three parts that make up this sequel.

However, the lack of substance doesn’t make for a bad action movie. With extremely well-coordinated fight scenes, explosions, and seemingly endless action, Winter Soldier definitely delivers to the fans where the first fell short if you believe the first droned on a bit while the necessary backstory was established. The action definitely caters to the fans who are clamoring for another Avengers movie, and it keeps up the momentum the Marvel films are known for.

Since July 2013’s San Diego Comic Con, The Winter Solider has been on the minds of Marvel fans everywhere. With television spots, the debut of the full trailer during the 2014 super bowl, Cap’s cameo in Thor: The Dark World, and eventually the release of the full elevator scene in theaters as a standalone trailer, this movie has a lot of excitement to live up to.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Cap’s world certainly does not have a short supply of heroes, and with that introduction welcome Sam Wilson, aka Falcon! When Rogers initially meets Wilson, he is a leader of a PTSD group at the local VA hospital. We can see how Cap’s own conflict of whether or not to soldier on in his crusade is reflected in the veterans who have returned home from war and are struggling as they themselves adapt to a world they are unfamiliar with. After missing nearly 70 years while he was asleep, in addition to not feeling fulfilled with a purpose, Rogers is struggling to fit into modern times. It’s not until Rogers meets a nemesis that is deserving of his abilities that he is pulled back into the scene full heartedly.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

It is unlikely fans will be disappointed with arrival of the new nemesis, known widely as the Winter Soldier. The Winter Soldier is certainly a villain who is worthy of Cap’s attention, both in his skill set as well as in his kick ass costume. However, not much screen time is dedicated to the opponent, unless he was going toe to toe with our hero, mano-a-mano. Without giving away too many spoilers, there is a whole back story that could have easily been explored about this character and how he got to where he is in this modern world. This is a storyline that desperately needs to be explained, and hopefully will be explored in the inevitable third installment of the series.

With meticulous care and eye to detail, the Marvel movies are all very integrated into each other to create one single coherent universe. In this world when you pull one thread the whole spider web trembles, and The Winter Soldier is of no exception. The cannon world has now stretched outside of the Blockbuster hits to include ABC’s new television show Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. However, with one serious plot development in Winter Soldier (which will not be spoiled here) the fans will be left wondering how S.H.I.E.L.D. will be influenced in future episodes.
