Duchess Silk is back on Geek Girls expressing her love for reading! Here's what she said about this shoot...
"There was a saying I heard when I was growing up: 'Boys don't make passes at girls who wear glasses.' As I got older, started wearing glasses, and thus started paying a little more attention, I enjoyed repeating the altered verse:
'Boys don't make passes at girls who wear glasses, but who cares?!'
It summed up my feelings pretty nicely. I liked boys and girls plenty; I liked seeing more. Seeing was much more useful to me than someone who didn't accept that I might not be physically perfect in every way. And so, I wore my glasses proudly.
Besides, as every vision impaired geek will tell you, glasses are freaking hot! They make you look intelligent. And are intelligent women, especially if they are brave enough to show their intelligence, are absolutely fantastic.
I carry around a book wherever I go, just out of habit. My current read, Les Miserables, is dog eared and tattered from too much carrying, reading on the bus, and getting soaked in the rain (three times). And while its slow destruction upsets me, I love it all the more for showing signs of being read!
So yes, books are awesome, glasses are sexy, and intelligence (be it book intelligence, life experience, or just mad skills) is something to be proud of!"
