Celebrities at Fan Expo 2015

Wandering Dana here recounting my celebrity experience at Fan Expo Canada! This year they had a really wonderful bunch of celebrity guests! I was super excited to see many of them, and although I didn't get photos of all of them I got to see so many.
On Friday I attended Karen Gillan's (Doctor Who, Guardians of the Galaxy) panel. She was super charming and funny. She said her favorite superhero is Spider-Man, her favorite Doctor Who villain is the Weeping Angels and her favorite Doctor Who episodes she was in are The Eleventh Hour and The Girl Who Waited. She also said she'd love to be in a Star Wars movie, but she'd want to play a weird looking alien in the background walking by and no one would no it was her. And she hasn't yet read the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 script yet and couldn't say much about it, but she's excited to once again play the role of Nebula.

I was able to meet and get an autograph from Skeet Ulrich, as I am a huge fan of his role as Jake Green in Jericho. In my opinion it's one of the greatest post-apocalyptic TV series ever and I feel it was greatly under appreciated. After season 1 was initially cancelled I was part of the successful fan campaign for CBS to bring it back for a second season. Jericho Rangers for life! So at least they got to wrap up the show, but as Ulrich told me it wasn't how they wanted to do it. We joked around for a little bit and he was super nice to meet!

Next I met and got an autograph from my favorite voice actor Steve Blum! He has voiced SO many great roles, I'm sure you've all heard him in something. He's probably most know for Spike Spiegel in the English dub of Cowboy Bebop. He's currently voicing Zeb in Star Wars Rebels, and has also done many Transformers, Wolverine in multiple cartoons, Mugen in the English dub of Samurai Champloo (my personal favorite) and seriously tons more! He was also really nice and funny and even did a little sample for me of Leeron Littner in Gurren Lagann. I also grabbed a photo of him and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, who is also a famous voice actor, together since she voiced Julie in Cowboy Bebop (also among so many other things). I always think voice actors are unsung heroes because they make so many of our favorite cartoons, video games and animes great and don't get as much glory, so I love meeting them too. I also think they have a dream job!

On Saturday I attended the Star Trek: Voyager panel with Robert Picardo (The Holographic Doctor), Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine) and Ethan Philipps (Neelix). Their panel was seriously hilarious, they had the audience in stitches the whole time. The moderator for some reason didn't show up so Picardo was the impromptu host and I actually think it worked out even better that way, he was super funny! They started off their panel with some dirty jokes and then realizing there was children there they promised they would keep it clean(ish) and that was a running joke throughout the panel. I got some funny video clips from the panel down below. One of Picardo & Ryan singing "You Are My Sunshine" to each other in homage to the Season 2, Episode 22 episode "Someone to Watch Over Me" where the Doctor is giving Seven dating lessons. And another of Picardo & Philipps "doing an impression" of Seven. They also lamented the lack of pockets in the Federation uniforms and Ryan talked about wanting to burn her costume when she was done with. Someone asked what they had taken from the set when the show was done, Picardo took his communicator, Philipps took his Chef hat and Ryan is lucky enough to have her Borg regeneration alcove in her basement! Anyway, all in all the panel was a hoot and had lots of great Star Trek reminiscing and stories, you could tell they were all very close and had a great time with each other.

Next it was off to the Adventure Time screening with Tom Kenny (voice of the Ice King) and Jeremy Shada (voice of Finn the Human) where we watched an episode and then got a little Q&A with Kenny & Shada! They were super nice and funny, they both even hugged a Fionna cosplayer and Kenny joked about he made her up in his fan fiction. Shada sang the Baby Finn song "Puncha Yo Buns" and Kenny gave us a special treat singing the Krusty Krab Pizza song as SpongeBob SquarePants (which you can see in the video below) whom he also voices.

Next up was the panel I was most excited for and had some serious fangirling moments. One of my absolute favorite actors and huge crush, the sexiest man in Denmark (and in my opinion the world, hehe) Hannibal and Le Chiffre himself, Mads Mikkelsen. His whole panel was a bit of a blur for me since I was in such awe of his charisma, but he mostly talked about Hannibal and his relationship with Will Graham in the series. He couldn't say much about his upcoming role in Star Wars: Rogue One, but there are rumors that he may be playing Galen Marek aka Starkiller since he apparently signed and underlined that name on a fans Star Wars poster. I also was able to meet him and get his autograph and he signed his character name "Hannibal" the same way so it stands to reason that is correct. He was amazing to talk to when I got his autograph, he actually spent a few minutes talking to each fan despite the massive line (it was so worth the wait) which I greatly appreciate. Meeting him was a huge pleasure and as soon as I got home I rewatched Casino Royale just to see something with him again.

Right after Mads' panel was Jason Momoa (Stargate: Atalantis, Game of Thrones) and it was also awesome! He wasn't able to say much about his upcoming Aquaman role, but he did say it was a dream role for him, it's going to be amazing and he is super excited for it. He said he wasn't sure how serious the character would be, when compared to DC's Batman or Superman, but he did say he couldn't see Aquaman "busting out a bunch of jokes". He also said to the people making fun of Aquaman, that they should just wait for his performance before they make jokes. He was also excited for his kids to be able to watch Aquaman and see their dad being cool, because so much of his work they can't see since they are young. His personal favorite superhero is Batman, he also said sorry if that's predictable but he's loved Batman since he was a kid.

And the last panel I attended on Saturday was An Evening with the Doctor's Companions with Karen Gillan and Jenna Coleman. This was the first time the two of them had ever done a panel together, so this was Doctor Who history in the making! They were both super sweet and funny (as I already said of Gillan's first panel) and I loved hearing their stories about the set and the other actors. My favorite funny story was when asked what their most embarrassing moments were on set, they both opted to instead tell the Doctor's most embarrassing stories. Gillan spoke of the time they were filming "The Curse of the Black Spot" and Matt Smith went to hit on super model Lily Cole, who was playing the Siren in that episode, so he strutted over trying to be all suave and leaned on a light stand and then fell over! Haha! Then Coleman told the story of when Peter Capaldi and her were filming in a power station right before the last shot, but he got hungry and wandered off to find some food. When he came back he was absolutely soaking wet so she asked him what happened, he said he found a red button, pressed it and it was actually a shower! That's such a thing the Doctor would do!

So anyway, overall it was super awesome seeing so many celebs I am a fan of! Below are pics from the panels and autograph signings and a small video and I'll have more photos uploaded the the Geek Girls facebook page soon...
