Chrono Trigger

“What is your favorite game of all time?”
During my 9 year long stint in video game retail, that question became almost an hourly occurrence in my work day. It is a question that always ended in the same answer no matter who was asking…
-Chrono Trigger-

Chrono Trigger

This classic Role Playing Game (RPG) was originally on the SNES, then was ported onto the PlayStation in a combo pack with Final Fantasy IV, and somewhat recently landed on the handheld Nintendo DS system.

Even with being on multiple platforms over the years, jumping between Nintendo, Sony and handheld, this gem of a game has never lost its luster and appeal.

Let’s take a look at what makes this game a champion among its kind.

This is the first video game to ever make me shed a tear. Ha ha ha, yes I have cried during the climax of certain games, or when so and so sacrifices themselves for the good of the mission and such, but as they say, “You never forget your first.”

Time traveling; rescuing the princess, gathering companions, saving the world… this game has it all. Though I must state that this is not the typical ”your princess is in another castle” type story, as you go to rescue the damsel in distress you discover love, loss, and seemingly impossible to overcome situations.

The line between friend and foe blurs as you race against throughout time to try and save your world from ultimate destruction. Luckily, this game is not just a quick play through and put down. There are plenty of dungeons, multiple endings and the always amazing “new game +.”

Chrono Trigger

I am actually going to post some of my favorite tracks on here because honestly with all the beautiful remixes (techno, orchestrated, instrumental) I could go on forever and ever about this timeless soundtrack… seriously.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg; there is even a version that is a three disc set. You can find them on amazon and eBay etc… just expect to spend a pretty penny.

If this game wasn’t a staple in your childhood, you missed out. LUCKILY with the ports onto newer consoles you get to mulligan.
At the same time, if you were lucky enough to have added this classic to your ”I came, played and conquered” list, you may want to revisit the most amazing 16 bit world and characters to grace the gaming culture. (The DS version even added extra dungeons.)

Destiny.
Fate.
Deception.
Love.
Loss.
Companionship.
Hope.
