FunExpo 2014
While everyone was busy Anime North weekend, two of our Geek Girls were in a galaxy far far away at FunExpo 2014. FunExpo is a free to attend event in Welland, Ontario organized by Robert D'Onofrio and
Force United Niagara to raise money for local charities including
Help a Child Smille and
Jace Wars.
In its seven years, including the event this year, Force United Niagara has raised $23,071.80 for charity. This year, two Geek Girls were represented as guests. Player Two and Northern Belle Cosplay were joined by Don't Panic Cosplay to represent Geek Girls at this amazing event, selling prints and interacting with fellow cosplayers. 50% of all print sales were donated to Help a Child Smile.
Here is what each of our Geek Girls had to say about the event:
Player Two: I had a blast at FunExpo 2014. As a huge Star Wars fan, it isn't very often to come across a Star Wars themed event so close to home. As a part of Force United Niagara myself, I am very happy with the outcome and the money raised on Saturday. It's great to find an event that's free to attend, especially for the kids, and there's nothing cuter than a kid in costume.
Northern Belle: This was my first time attending FUNExpo, and admittedly my first time cosplaying from the Star Wars world. I had a blast as Rogue2D2, and I think a lot of people got a kick out of my rollerblades – thank goodness the event was held in an arena! It was a wonderful opportunity to work with Force United Niagara and the kids definitely seemed to have a lot of fun. At one point we even had an army of little Leia’s, they were absolutely adorable.
Don't Panic: This was my first time at FUNexpo and it definitely lived up to it's name. It was a blast hanging out with the Force United and all the other Star Wars fans that turned up to hassle some storm troopers
Here's an awesome video of our experience by Northern Bell...
