looks amazing as the heroine of The Hunger Games, Katniss! We even had the pleasure of seeing her and grabbing a photo at
Toronto ComiCon
! Here's what she said about her cosplay...
"I decided to make Katniss Everdeen's Arena costume and weapons because I love the courage of this character..and wanted the challenge of learning new techniques.
The entire photoshoot was shot with an iPhone in two locations in my hometown province of British Columbia, Canada. The forest location is that of Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver and the beach is Garry Point in Steveston, where 'Once Upon A Time' is filmed.
The costume consists of a wetsuit on which I stencilled and hand painted the panels with flat fabric paint. The white stitching was hand sewn using an upholstery needle. I chose to use a wetsuit as opposed to making a bodysuit from scratch so that I can go in the water, like Katniss does in the arena. I had planned to get some shots diving into the ocean but unfortunately, it was freezing - being that it was January I'll have to do it another time! The sleeves were made from spandex fabric, as were the boot covers. The quiver was made using the cardboard rolls from wrapping paper, bound in masking tape and then wrapped in the same spandex fabric as the sleeves. It was then trimmed with craft foam and spray painted. The arrows were made from wooden dowels with duct tape feathers. This is the first time that I have made a bow. The inner part of the handle was made from PVC trim board (thanks for that Walter deSousa) and then covered with thick and thin craft foam and bevelled using a Dremel. The arms of the bow were made using the worbla sandwich technique.
All in all, this costume was harder that I thought because of the amount of detail needed, and I'm actually still going to physio therapy for my right wrist and arm from the detailed paintingbut it was all worth it!
I <3 Katniss Everdeen!"
