Furiosa from Mad Max: Fury Road Cosplay Ferasha Cosplay
looks amazingly badass as Furiosa from Mad Max: Fury Road! Here's what she had to say...
"Mad Max: Fury Road came as a big surprise to me. My expectations for the movie weren't sky high - y'know, it's kinda tricky to reboot a cult old franchise with a brand new actor - yet it still managed to blow my mind. It wasn't only about the impeccably directed action scenes, the car chases, the practical effects or the believably stylish post-apocalyptic design. What surprised me the most was that the story worked so well - and at the heart of it, there was Furiosa, a powerful and strong female character who conveys all the right messages without feeling like a checklist-ticking artificial construct. And I found her so inspiring that I had to make the cosplay.
The costume itself was not so complicated: we made it over the course of four long afternoons. The arm consists of all sorts of junk - bottle caps, discarded tools, umbrella parts, IV tubes, and even a shower cable - and it's surprisingly comfortable to wear. Perhaps the most complicated part was getting the super-short wig right, and weathering the clothes so that they look appropriately worn and torn.
However, Furiosa grew to be one of my most beloved costumes for another reason.
In November 2016 - when I debuted the costume - my father came down with terminal lung cancer. The doctors gave him no more than a few weeks. Upon hearing it, of course, I had a total nervous breakdown - but I wasn't in a position to excuse myself from the convention, since I was one of the head organizers and a bunch of things depended on me. So, I soldiered on. And I managed to make it through the con because I was in the skin of Imperator Furiosa.
She's one tough cookie, that one. She's fiercely committed to her mission. She would never ever allow pain to prevent her from performing her tasks, no matter how hard it hurt. Furiosa would not cry. Furiosa would not fall apart. Furiosa would get her sh*t together and get the job done. I relied on her strength, her toughness and dedication to make it through the day. Or, perhaps, she allowed me to find that strength deep within myself in a moment when I needed it the most.
Never before have I been that thankful to a fictional character, or felt so pleased that cosplay was my hobby of choice."
