Soulwynn recently had the opportunity to shoot with long time friend and contributor to Geek Girls
Adam Jay! Here's what she had to say about the shoot...
"I love cosplaying strong, tough, women. Dinah has been portrayed as both a dumb blonde, and a kickass bombshell. I prefer to think of her as the latter as her main backstory gives me the impression of someone who fought against the odds to become who she needed to be. She trained hard to increase her strength and prove to her Mother that she could overcome any obstacle. I really respect that. I find that when I cosplay strong women, I learn how to channel my own strength to bring out the character needed for the shoot. So next time I’m in a bind I can be like “What would Black Canary do?” ^_^
I had been working on a Black Canary cosplay for a while so it was really awesome to see it come to fruition! One of my favourite things about cosplay in general is that each costume will be a little different depending on the cosplayer’s vision. I did my own make up, the costume itself would be what I would call a “found” cosplay: where you find pieces that work and put them all together. I’m not as skilled yet with sewing so this is my preferred route for now. This was also a good opportunity for me to work on my own editing!
SuperHero Photography by Adam Jay was very easy to work with. He directed well and really made me feel like the shoot was a success. It was great to cooperate with him. Thanks to him I now have a great set of Black Canary photos that I can be very proud of."
