My hubby Retro Joad and I were fortunate enough to be selected to perform at this year's Toronto Burlesque Festival, the 8th year since its incarnation. The level of talent and quality of performance you see at this festival is top notch. There were performers from the States, from the UK, from around the world from Japan and Australia and of course lots from Canada. It was a weekend to behold and you should be sorry you missed it. Each night offered up a completely different experience. The night that Retro Joad and I performed in was the Pop show late on the Saturday night. This was after the exquisite Glam-a-Ganza show. What was fantastic was that most of the audience stayed through both performances and they were so receptive, and so appreciative of the art, talent and beauty that was presented on stage, we could not have asked for better.
The Pop show was full of geek and pop culture, rife with jokes and clever ways to show the audience an alternate way of looking at and appreciating their fandom. Hosted by the incomparable Bastard Keith, who was just the right amount of filthy to keep the audience engaged, would break out into song with his beautiful voice and exposed his own level of geekery (especially when the LOTR number came up lol).
There were Disco dancing stormtroopers, a heart stopping Mad Max female group number, a deadly and dangerous Dalek (who has been
featured on here), secrets about Beeker that you would never see coming, my hubby and I did our song parody Joker Face Lady Gaga/Harley and an absolutely breathtaking Labyrinth number. This is just to name a few, and this was only one show. If you are in Toronto July 2016, this is the event you need to see. You will see headliners that you might not ever see again and you will love that you caught them.
Kitten N' Lou are a duo to behold. Their choreo is always amazing and their costumes stunning.
Aurora Galore took that stage by storm and left you breathless. Don't miss this weekend again, support local artists, live theatre, dance, art and immerse yourself in something that will stay with you forever.
I have also included some highlight pictures from the other shows and more will be posted in the album.
