Rin Tohsaka from Fate Stay/Night Cosplay
Stardust Camellia looks lovely cosplaying as Rin Tohsaka (Unlimited Blade Works Ver.) from Fate Stay/Night! Here's what she had to say...
"I was sort of late getting into the Fate Stay/Night franchise. I've played the original visual novel, after seeing Studio DEEN's TV anime. After I played the game, I was hooked. Naturally, I was overjoyed when Type-MOON collaborated with Ufotable to make the gorgeous, new Unlimited Blade Works reanimated arc for the 2014-2015 season, motivating me to finally, at long last cosplay my favorite character from the franchise: Rin Tohsaka. She's a special character to me; I don't feel often like I can directly identify to many fictional characters in video games or anime/manga, but Rin is an exception.
She's got a multilayered personality—outwardly very strong, aggressive, cold, and dispassionate, the definition of the tsundere archetype. She pays attention to social expectations, and puts on the guise of the model student, even though at her core, she couldn't care less. Yet, underneath, she doesn't believe herself nearly as smart, beautiful, or confident as everyone thinks she is, and she takes out her frustrations with herself through her often domineering, bossy outward nature, seeing herself as clumsy and rash. Rin is eminently aware of her very human flaws, and despite her great prowess as a mage, fighting in the Holy Grail War, she does so more to honor tradition rather than for the sake of gaining more power. Rin wants to do great things, but she doesn't know what those things are, or even if she should. She's much more emotionally fragile than she lets on, and cares a great deal about those around her, even if she doesn't dare let it show, hiding her better angels from view.
Like Rin, I have a lot of trouble marshaling self-confidence and putting it to good use. Cosplaying her was important to me, as not only do I love her as a character, donning her persona for a few hours at a convention or a shoot allows me to use a different magic—the magic of cosplay—to siphon some of that ironclad resolve of hers and keep it for myself. The costume itself is also very comfortable, understated but cute and flirty—the skirt is almost disastrously short! She is after all, a character from an eroge, which in and of itself carries a bit of baggage, but I don't mind. I had a lot of fun cosplaying her and shooting her for the first time, and hope to add some improvements down the line."
