What's Happening with the Geek Girls (April Edition)

We have a new monthly post called "What's Happening with the Geek Girls" where any of our official GGs who want to share can post about what they're up to that month! A big thanks to Geek Girl Shelle-chii for organizing this. The ladies will share anything they're working on or planning, like cons and events, cosplay WIPs, art projects, etc. so you guys can all see what we're up to! Here's our first edition for the month of April...

Whats Happening With the Geek Girls

With Anime North coming up ive been working on a few projects. One that I have finished but had some WIP is my Princess Mononoke that Evie E helped me make for GTA comicon. It was really fun and comfy to wear. I’m also working on a Gundam Girl cosplay for Anime North. I’m super excited for this cosplay, I love pushing myself to do bigger and more challenging cosplays. This one has had me stumped a few times but I just keep working away at the piece that I’m confident with. I am also working on three other cosplays at the moment. The picture of the flowers is for my Frozen Fever Elsa that i’m working away at. I’m going to try really really hard to make it very accurate, and I’m going to hopefully hand make all the beading that will go onto the dress. The felt flowers were just cut out and covered with sparkly mod podge with some white details painted onto the smaller ones. The other two cosplays that I’m working on that aren’t pictured are my original concepts for a Pool Party Sona and Jinx for my boyfriend and I for Anime North. I will have pictures of the WIP for those for the next submissions. Oh did we mention this is going to be a monthly thing now? Enjoy!! -Shelle-chii

Whats Happening With the Geek Girls

I'm currently working on a new costume which I've obsessively staring at during many hours of game play, Cassandra from Dragon Age: Inquisition!  I've never built armor like this before so its been a big learning process, in the end thanks to some helpful tips from friends such as use Barge contact cement on your EVA foam  (made my life 10x easier) I'm loving the results of my first build.  I've also started on the pants which are a giant puzzle of pattern pieces that I drafted, sewed together and then hand stitched the top details with embroidery floss. I'm taking my time building the costume and loving it,  I love working with no convention timelines. -GillyKins

Whats Happening With the Geek Girls

Hey Sugah's! GG Northern Belle Rogue here and the big thing I want to tell  you about this April is the annual Northern Panic: Cosplay City Clean Up! The Saturday after Earth Day we'll be heading to Allan Gardens in downtown Toronto. Come out and enjoy a family friendly event with an opportunity to give back. We will be providing rubber gloves and garbage bags, and of course the cosplay is optional! The only rule we have is that young children must be accompanied by an adult as we often find some pretty strange and let's say unique items in the park. Check out the video to see what treasures we found last year. I hope to see y'all out there on April 25th 2015! Regards, Rogue

Whats Happening With the Geek Girls

This month, April, i am attending GTA ComicCon as a cosplay community guest, i managed to make Daenerys Targaryen's wedding dress from Season One of Game of Thrones. It's a costume i've wanted to make for a while and i've even had the fabric for a long time now! Other then GTA CC i don't have too much planned, most of my time is going to be spent working on stuff for Anime North. I'm planning on making Soraka's Dryad skin from League of Legends. She's my favorite champion, and this is one of my favorite skins! I have the hooves/shoes done and all the stuff to make the rest of the costume, i just have to get to work! -Evie E

Whats Happening With the Geek Girls

For the past few years, I decided to concentrate on my career as an illustrator and comic artist. I run a web-comic called Pole Dancing Adventures, published my first book via Kickstarter in 2014 and this year, I'll be doing the conventions with my beau, Nguyen. Together, we're self-publishing our own comics under the name Dark Productions. I'm proud to say that our next show will be at San Diego Comic Con International where we can be found at Small Press Table P11. I still cosplay when I can but I'm definitely focusing on building my dream as an artist and I love it!

Whats Happening With the Geek Girls

Two things I'm working on this month are for Star Wars Celebration 7 happening this month in Anaheim. The first is a mash up costume of a New Hope Leia/Harley of which I hope to have some pictures up soon. The best are the plushie cinnamon buns my hubby made for me so Harley has literal buns on her head. It's going to be great. The second is a retro SW dress I made from some awesome fabric I found. This was my first ever dress project that I did on my own. There are still some tweaks to be done but overall I am very pleased with the result. -Critical Miss
