Fan Expo Vancouver was THE convention to be at April 3-5! With awesome guests such as William Shatner and Carrie Fisher and tons of other attractions, it was a must-see event for fans of all ages. Our own Mimi got the chance to meet William Shatner this weekend, and (even though it was only for about 20 seconds) he was super nice! He seemed very pleasantly surprised when she showed up with Chrisscreama and Teryl Dactyl in their Star Trek cosplays.

Arrow and Dr. Who fans were in for a special treat when John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness) was surprised at his panel by a fan who, knowing his great love of karaoke, asked him to duet on 'All I Ask of You' from Phantom of the Opera. John very graciously accepted, and sang Christine Daae to the overjoyed fan's Raoul. It's always so great to see the biggest guests and celebrities at FanExpo having just as good a time as the attendees!

Star Wars love abounds, this year! Princess Leia actress, Carrie Fisher signed autographs and glitterbomed adoring fans while the 501st legion'spresence was a hard to miss! Kasi, Mimi and Remi even got a photo with Chewbacca while wearing their Star Wars themed (Boba Fett, Darth Vaderand Stormtrooper) bunnysuits!

Deadpool cosplayers were particularly interesting, as Deadpool's character permits him to be as outside-of-the-box as can be. Crossovers seen at Fan Expo Vancouver ranged from mecha robot to miniatures, a french maid and even a full family unit! Ryan Reynolds is currently in Vancouver filming the Deadpool movie, which has likely contributed to the Marvel character's popularity at the con. He stopped one lucky zombie Deadpool cosplayer on the street for a photo on Sunday, which he even shared on twitter.
Alongside the the all star cast of celebrities and guests at Fan Expo, the cosplaying attendees were a sight to see! The scale of cosplay ranged far and wide. You likely saw a World of Warcraft Orc wandering the halls as well as the Dark Lord Sauron himself, both costumes exemplifying how intricate cosplay can get. However, regardless of how complex cosplay is or isn't, it was apparent that a huge amount of effort was poured into Fan Expo.

There is a high percentage that most of the cosplayers were finishing their outfits that very morning. Lack of sleep and last minute crafting almost feels like a ritual within the cosplay community. What is most amazing is that many of its members are not professional costumers. They often are students or working people who have not had any schooling to teach them how to sew or construct pieces of foam armour. Knowing this, it's all the more incredible viewing and photographing the cast of characters that strewn the halls of Vancouver Fan Expo.
