"I have wanted to go into costume and fashion since I was 5 and I finally got my shot. With that I talked to Zenescope who I had gotten to know over the years and we came up with a lisensing agreement. I think signing that contract was one of the most exciting things that has ever happened to me in my life. I had wanted to work with them so much and it put me...somewhere else. I never saw myself as a cosplayer. I went to modeling school but I like costume better so I started to dress up and take pictures for fun. Eventually along the way I was informed I was a cosplayer but there was so much more to dressing up and now I finally get to share the other part of that with other people.
Basically for this line I referenced popular covers of popular characters and I tried to make the costumes as close as I could while making them wearable by normal human females...as we all know comics get quite exaggerated sometimes with style. Adapting them and finding the fabrics was awesome, seeing them come to life and looking through these pictures the first time felt like such an incredible accomplishment. I managed to come up with an idea and mass produce it, get a booth at NYCC (1666! come see me!), and I am so lucky that I have this chance to pursue my dreams!
The other line I am working to have for NYCC is a steampunk line which so far is looking beautiful! I couldn't be more excited about that as well!
I have a great partner who has been in the shoe and handbag industries for a long time and is teaching me the things I never knew about production on a larger scale which is great.
There are people all over today telling me they are happy for me and proud of me and I can't believe how much support I have on this so far! (Now let's hope the costumes sell!!)
I know most cosplayers don't get the chance to run off with their costume ideas and make a company out of them...I know that is kind of unheard of... And for that I am truly lucky, as well as for the support I am getting from people and proud, for the first time in a long time I am really proud of myself seeing this all come together...and in shock...definitely in shock!
I really tried to put really good materials into everything so they aren't a "wear one time" sort of costume, and as each one was finished I was more and more amazed at how the quality came out. That is one way I really wanted to stand out from other companies, materials and quality that last and that are beautiful...things that I would choose if I were making a costume just for myself, I want other people to be able to buy that quality from me.
Most of all, I really hope people love these costumes as much as I do, I hope to see other people wear them and enjoy them and take their own fun pictures in them, to see Princess Nightmare costumes getting attention, being bought, being worn, being photographed by other people would be amazing! This really is what I wanted for my life, for my entire life, and I am just so lucky I have this chance."
