4th Doctor Cosplay

The beautiful Lauren Avjean as the 4th Doctor from Doctor Who! We love The Doctor and she really gets the feel down in her take on the character. Here's what she had to say about the clothes and the shoot :D

"I started knitting the Dr. Who scarf back in 2009 while catching up on new Dr. Who episodes on Netflix. It is TV accurate and is made of 100% wool yarn (just like Tom Baker's). The knitting took about 140 hours and then afterwards I stretched it across a couple rooms to "block" the wool so that it stays flat. It took over the rooms for about two days while it dried, and we were left to use the remainder of the apartment in the meantime.

After the scarf, I realized that maybe I should make the rest of the costume to go with it, so I made the jacket and skirt, from scratch, in the style of Tom Baker and used other articles of clothing in my wardrobe that were just begging to be a part of the costume as well.

I debuted it in this photoshoot with my friend Brian Matis, where we hiked 1550ft to the top of one of our local peaks and took some rockin' photos. While we were there, we ran across some rock climbers and one was nice enough to pose with us!

Since then I've worn it to both our local gaming convention, PolyCon, as well as the Central Coast Renaissance Festival, where The Doctor ran around looking for a "big blue box" with the faire attendees. Unfortunately the only blue boxes we found that day were the privies...

As cool as bow ties are, I love to see when the new Whovians get excited about the costume and ask where I got the scarf. You wouldn't believe how many people have asked me to make a scarf for them and their eyes when I tell them that I'll do it at minimum wage for 130 hours plus materials!

I hope to be able to wear it out to more events, as well as some more photoshoots, but it might get put on the backburner as I work on some more cosplay ideas. I'll be sure to share those photos as well, once they're done!"
