Geeks are pretty easy to find now-a-days. We’ve left the days of hiding for fear of bullying and loneliness far behind and are loud and proud about our loves. One of the best parts of being a geek is the people you meet. The friend you can squeal with when your favourite character is announced as the star of a new movie, the friend that understands the obscure quote you just blurted out, the friend that challenges you at games and trivia and the friend that stands beside you when times are tough.
Geeks stick to other geeks. Perhaps it is a defense mechanism from the days we were ostracized by ‘the cool kids’, but I prefer to look at it as finding some other person just as awesome as you are. The lovely short haired lady featured alongside me in these images is my very good friend and fellow geek. We might have many different tastes and preferences, she may enjoy gaming more than I do and I may be more up to date on the comic book world, but she’s the girl I can turn to and know that she understands me. She’s someone I can always be my dorky self around without fear of ridicule or shame, because she’s just as dorky as I am.
Sharing your loves and interests with another person makes a fandom, and can help grow your love, understanding and debating skills. A friend is something special, but a geeky friend is something amazing.
