Unplugged Expo 2014

Some of the Geek Girls recently attended the 2 day Geek Culture Event Ungplugged Expo: A Weekend of Awesome! Here's what they each had to say about the event followed by lots of amazing cosplay photos and more from the event (photos by Geek Girl Player Two unless otherwise specified)...

GG Amaleigh"This was my first time attending Unplugged Expo and based on my experience, I would definitely go back next year! The location was perfect for just about any costume and the staff were awesome! I got to see so many friends and make new ones! It's exactly the kind of con experience I enjoy! While I didn't get to attend any panels, I spent most of my time being behind and in front of the camera!"

GG Roxy Lee: "Hey guys Roxy here, I had a fantastic time at Unplugged Expo as always. I got to hang with some of my fellow Geek Girls which is always awesome and my fiance Art of Tony K. We also got to debut out first couples cosplay as Glenn and Maggie from Walking Dead! I'd like to thank James for having us there and the event for being so kind to us. My makeup and Cosplay is not Consent panel was incredible, there was so many amazing discussions! I will for sure be back next year."

GG GillyKins: "I had a great time at Unplugged Expo this year.  The location this year was perfect, easy to drive/transit to with a ton of excellent food.  Not to mention to great photo locations less then a 5min walk away!  I wore Bombshell Batwoman on Saturday and Young Justice Cheshire on Sunday.  The convention was the perfect size to catch up people and make some awesome new friends.  Saturday I hopped onto a fabrication panel with Henchman Props and Imai Cosplay, which turned into us geeking out over her costume.  Then my fellow Geek Girl Gina and I ran our Working with Spandex panel. Definitely looking forward to Unplugged next year. - Gilly"

GG Gina G.: "I had a great time at Unplugged Expo! Despite only being able to go Saturday, I packed a whole lot of stuff into one day. The layout this year was a lot different than last year's set-up. It split the convention into two, which was a little strange for traffic flow. That being said, there was a lot less crowding because we had more room. I never made it to the dealer's room, so I can't say much about that, but as for booth space, we had TONS this year! Both Geek Girls and Cosplay for A Cure were very well accommodated, and it was really refreshing to get the space we need. My panels went really well, despite some of them only having a few people attend. For some reason the panels must not have been advertised very well, but everyone who came was lovely to speak to and with. A big thanks to my fellow panelists, especially the lovely Geek Girls who made the Cosplay Is Not Consent panel so progressive and informative. All in all, I met so many amazing cosplayers, did some awesome shoots, and hung out with friends I haven't seen all summer. Shout-out to new friends; Henchmen Props & Cosplay, Imai Cosplay, and Atlas Cosplay! I hope everyone had as much fun as I did!"

GG Northern Belle"This was my first ever Unplugged Expo and it was such a wonderful experience! I attended under the banner of Northern Panic with my colleague Don't Panic Cosplay and we ran a fundraiser for SKETCH. The organizers of Unplugged were very generous and put us right at the top of the escalator so everyone coming into the con would see our table. Their generosity was matched in kind by all the wonderful exhibitors and attendees that came over and donated to the cause. There were so many talented cosplayers around as well as some wonderful panels. It was a real treat to be able to join some of my fellow Geek Girls on the Cosplay =/= Consent panel Saturday, and of course derping around thoughout the weekend. I hope you all had as much fun as I did and I hope to see y'all there next year! -GG Northern Belle Rogue"

GG Shelle-chii: "Unplugged was definitely a weekend of awesome, despite my only being there the Saturday. Things seemed to run pretty smoothly, though there was some confusion with the guest department, things got sorted out. It was awesome to be able to work with unplugged to do the commercial and assisting with running a panel. Getting to mediate the Anime Johnny Young Bosh panel was definitely the highlight of my weekend, I even got a signed picture from him of Ichigo. All in all I feel like Unplugged is another one of those great smaller cons that are super fun to attend to hang out with friends and get some great pictures. Though the venue itself was a little bit small for photos, there was many locations close by that worked very nicely"

GG Evie E: "This (2014) was my first time going to Unplugged Expo and I had a total blast! It is now going to be a convention I try to make it to year after year! I have really come to love smaller conventions they are less stressful for me and I get to do more. I was so happy to help Roxy out with the “Cosplay =/= Consent” panel, and it was great getting to go to VickyBunnyAngel’s panel on Cosplay and League of Legends (which I need to play more). I dressed as Terra Branford for the weekend, since I re-worked the costume and in my option improved it greatly. I had plans to cosplay on Sunday but after a very fun but long night those plans changed! Still it was a wonderful convention and I can’t wait till next year. -Evie-E"

GG Jenn Marvel: "This was my second year at unplugged. This year unplugged was a lot bigger then the year before. I got a chance to do a panel for visual effects, It was a lot of fun showing people what I get to do everyday at my job.  I really enjoyed meeting lots of new people and spending time with the other girls at our table.  I also got to wear 2 new cosplays a new female cyclops and a female punisher I had a lot of fun and I can't wait to do it again next year!"

GG Player Two: "I had a great time at Unplugged Expo this year! This was my second year attending the con and I must say, I much prefer it to last years' event. The location was amazing, the staff was extremely courteous and it was well organized. This year I was able to run around and take some photos, so I hope you enjoy my collection of event photos. Special thank you to all of you who came by to say hi and buy prints. You make everything possible."
