APOP is a 3-Day geek festival that’s a regular fan convention + carnival + music festival + all weekend dance party with over 200 events. This year it was held at The Ontario Science Center. Attendees were granted late night access to the Science Center which meant crowd free exhibit viewing and some super cool photo locations. While many conventions focus on celebrities or artist’s alley, APOP centers on community activities and interaction.

APOP’s programing offers a weekend full of carnival games and activities such as a gladiator bouncy castle as well as multiple circus and burlesque performances which are all WELL worth checking out. Many talented performers graced the stage with aerial silk and hoop performances hovering above the audience, all with a definite geeky twist. Our Geek Girl Mika aka. Fenix Targaryen even preformed a fire dancing routine!

A full schedule of geeky crafts such as Sailor Moon Shrinky Dinks and Build Your Own Dragon let attendees get of their feet for a few minutes and let their creative side go. Jenn Marvel had a blast crafting her own glitterized pirate eye patch and taking part in the P.O.G. championship. The Ramen eating contest drew some serious crowds with our own Roxy Lee and her fiancé almost taking 1st place!

There were panels running throughout the weekend such as the Geek Girls panels run by Northern Belle, Roxy Lee, Jenn Marvel and GillyKins: CosPLAY: Playing You Character, Cosplay Makeup and Cosplay Sewing and Fabrication.

Other programming like The Atomic School of Witchcraft & Wizardry resumed classes in Charms, Potions and Divinations. Care of Magical Creatures class even brought exotic animals such as a Baby Kangaroo and birds out to play, Sponsored by Hands on Exotics. The Great Dragonball Hunt sent attendees searching for the 7 Dragon Balls, Shenron was released by non-other that Geek Girl Northern Belle who took home the grand prize sponsored by Kigurumi Canada.

We all had a great time over the weekend dancing, laughing and in Mika’s case playing with fire. Oh and let’s not forget all the SCIENCE! Thanks for a great weekend Atomic Lollipop!
