Andrew Dobson's Poster Equality Comics

Andrew Dobson is a comic artist who's not afraid to touch on the big issues in comics today. Be sure to check out his website "So, You’re A Cartoonist" for more funny, and maybe even controversial comics. Here's two we found amusing and relevant called "SYAC - Powered Down" & "SYAC - Male Perspective" and his explanation of their meaning along with them...

"A Comic Con in Texas recently got some heat from female convention goers when they started promoting the show with a close up of Power Girl’s breasts and a tag line reading “Everything is BIGGER in Austin.”

Tongue-in-cheek though it may be, It’s depressingly sad that they couldn’t see the backlash coming. Seriously... what better way to piss of 50% of your convention going public than by glorifying and objectifying them in your advertisement of the show?

(The tag-line I used in my comic is a reference to a similar incident when Soul Calibur 5 was promoted)

The convention has apologized and changed their marketing in response." (Source)

"When guys try to use the “men are ALSO objectified in comics because of their rippling muscles and skin-tight suits!” I wanna scream “IT’S NOT THE SAME THING!”

Those big burly men in comics are not designed with the female gaze in mind. They are self-image power fantasies designed to appeal to MEN. So what does a female equivalent look like? It looks something like this...

ENJOY!"
